Introducing Jose Torres, a classical builder naturally. Check out his guitar. I invited him over to visit with some other classical builders. You'll probably recognize the name if he shows.  He's from PA. Jose emailed me this picture and gave me permission to post it.

Sorry John, that was a bit unclear. I sold a set of birdseye maple B and S. The guys name pops up and it's Torres. I had a little exchange with him regarding the famous name in guitar building. We both had a laugh and I in turn invited him to the OLF and told him there would be some other classical builders here he could visit with. Turns out he is from Peurto Rico rather than Spain. His first name is Jose. My wife walks by as I was muttering something about a Jose Torres. She says, "Hey, I had a Jose Torres in my class last year." She's a fifth grade teacher. So... common name, I suppose, one just got famous along the way. |

Now that makes a lot more sense. I think your wife got it right: Jose Torres = John Smith (or close enough). Still, when that guy goes to sell a guitar on Ebay, or put his label inside, he still gets to call it a Torres guitar. That alone will probably generate some additional hits on his site. Hey, here's an idea, you could change you name to Bruce Cumpiano, or maybe Bruce Somogyi. That might get you an extra couple hits on Ebay, although your wife may have something to say about that.

I could rightly use James Dickey, but no one knows who he is either. That's my first name. Remind your wives or girlfriends to call a kid by his first name. They will thank you. I missed roll call more than once. |

James Dickey is an actor , Prizzis Honor among many others I think, Lousy luthier though

James Dickey was also a Southern author & poet from the great state of South Carolina. His most auspicious achievement was writing the book "Deliverance" from which the popular film was made. He died a few years ago but I know for a fact he wasn't a luthier. This man was too in love with the sound of his own voice to be willing to give a voice to an instrument made of wood. Skip |

hey,bruce, i bought one of jose's guitars here in pa. so far,best i played. grand concert with cedar top. in the mix of getting a second one.love these. what do you think of yours? |

Aurelio, I just met Jose, but it appears he's well on his way to fulfil his namesake's incredible work. Check out this cutaway Jose did. I just love the flair I see in his work. Maybe he'll log on and tell us more about his guitars and how many he has built to date? I'm thrilled to have met him. Guitar Details: The finish is shellac, Indian rosewood, Engelmann spruce, one piece neck, rosewood bridge, ebony finger board, and great sound. Jose |

he IS a cool person.modest.one hell of a builder/luthier. i am going to see Earl Klugh at the berks jazz festival in marrch and i am taking the guitar along with me to hear what he has to say.i will be posting some pics very soon as soon as i figure how to.not too computer savy so i will have to talk to the wifey for instructions. there is also a guy in NJ by the name of benny munoz.phenomenal player.he also has jose's guitar and a requinto.i too have a requinto.truly a work of art. anyways,maybe i can have benny sound off aslo. keep on playing, aurelio |
